The following diagrams show two posible ways of installing the Pet Door Insert:

  • Basic installation which is quick and easy and does not require any tools; or
  • Advanced Installation which includes the installation of the new Screen Door Adapter. This options requires tools, however as it gives you further convenience we highly recommend it!!
  •

You can install Pet Door Insert without using any tools. It is easy to install, simply follow these four steps:

Step 1. Insert the Pet Door Insert into the bottom channel of your glass sliding Door.

Step 2. Unscrew the two turn knobs anticlockwise (maximum 2-3 turns) - this will allow you to extend the extendable panel into the top channel of your sliding door. Screw the two turn knobs clockwise to lock the extendable panel in position.

Step 3. Included in your delivery package is a weather strip (mohair strip). Insert this into the side channel of your Pet Door insert that will be in contact with your glass sliding door to prevent any draft.

Step 4. Locking options. If you have an existing Patio Bolt you will need to drill an addtional hole into your aluminium sliding door frame. If you do not have a Patio Bolt you can purchase one from your local hardware store. For security reasons we recommend that your Patio Bolt is in the top part of your sliding door so that it is not accessible through the flap of the Pet Door Insert. As an alternative to a Patio Bolt some customers use a wooden dowel or broomstick, which is placed into the bottom channel of the glass sliding door. However this option may be less secure.

Please note: with the basic installation you must leave your screen door partially open to allow use of the pet flap.

Please refer to picture below to identify different components of the sliding door and understand how the Pet Door Insert fits. The different colours are used to clearly distinguish between different component of the sliding door.

Patio Link is proud to present our new Screen Door Adapter. The Screen Door Adapter is an optional additional aluminium extrusion which attaches to the side of the Pet Door Insert. The Screen Door Adapter will enable the following convenient functions:

    1) Sliding Door locking remains unchanged. Your existing door handle will still be used to lock your sliding door. You only have to relocate your door locking dock (this is where your door handle fits in and locks your sliding door). Please see the diagram below.

    2) Screen Door remains operational. If you want to have your glass sliding door open and also use your screen door to allow fresh air into your home, you should use the Screen Door Adapter . The Screen Door Adapter allows you to close the screen door flush against it. This will effectively seal any gaps and prevent the entry of unwanted bugs - whilst the pet flap will remain fully operational.

    3) Improved seal between glass sliding door edge and the Pet Door Insert edge. This is great if your sliding door is slightly out of alignment and therefore may not close 100% parrallel against the Pet Door Insert. The Screen Door Adapter provides a channel for the leading edge of the glass sliding door to fit into, therefore any misalignment is counteracted.

The following steps are required for advanced installation with the Screen Door Adapter:

Step 1. Insert your Pet Door Insert as per basic installation instructions above (but do not install the weather strip).

Step 2. The Screen Door Adapter is supplied in 2.1m lengths. Measure your sliding door height from the top channel to the bottom channel. Use a metal hand saw to cut theScreen Door Adapter to the height of your sliding door.

Step 3. Insert your Screen Door Adapter against the Pet Door Insert. Use the hand drill and drill through the pre-drilled holes in the Screen Door Adapter into the Pet Door Insert. Use the screwdriver and to screw the supplied screws in through the drilled holes. This will fix the Screen Door Adapter to the Pet Door Insert.

Step 4. Relocate the sliding door and screen door locking docks from their existing position and onto the Screen Door Adapter. This will require you to unscrew your sliding door 'docks' and drill new holes into the Screen Door Adapter in the right location - remember this needs to align with the door handle to lock. Use the screwdriver to re-screw through the holes and fix the locking 'docks' in position on the Screen Door Adapter.

Step 5. You now need to fix the Pet Door Insert into the framework of your sliding door. Find the empty screw holes from where your removed your locking dock for the glass sliding door. Then pre-drill through these holes in through the Pet Door Insert and screw through the holes to fix it.

Note: Installation of the Screen Door Adapter is reversable if you ever need to move house or relocate. You can always re-instate your sliding door back to the original condition.

Tools required: tape measure, metal hand saw, hand drill, drill bits and set of screwdrivers.
