1. Security and locking

If you have an existing Patio Bolt you will need to drill an addtional hole into your aluminium sliding door frame. If you do not have a Patio Bolt you can purchase one from your local hardware store. For security reasons we recommend that your Patio Bolt is in the top part of your sliding door so that it is not accessible through the flap of the Pet Door Insert. As an alternative to a Patio Bolt some customers use a wooden dowel or broomstick, which is placed into the bottom channel of the glass sliding door. However this option may be less secure.

The third option is to install Screen Door Adapter. Method of locking of your sliding door will then remain unchanged - your existing sliding door handle remains operational.

2. Can the Pet Door Insert fit in wooden sliding doors?

We have quite a few customers with wooden sliding doors. In order for our pet door insert to fit into your wooden sliding door, you need to ensure that your sliding door has both a top and bottom sliding door channel.

3. Can the Pet Door Insert fit in double sliding doors?

Yes, our pet door insert can fit into double sliding doors. We recommend that you install a Patio bolt for each sliding door. The placement of our pet door insert can be either in the middle or to one side which allows one of your sliding doors to be fully closed in its normal position.

4. Can the Pet Door Insert fit in bifold doors of French doors?

No. Our pet door insert does not work with hinged doors. It only works with sliding doors.

5. How to prevent wind draft?

Included in the Pet Door Insert package are the 'mohair' weathering strip and rubber weather strip .

'Mohair' weather strip inserts into the side channel of the Pet Door Insert and it will prevent draft comming from the gap between the Pet Door Insert and Sliding Door leading edge. With some older sliding doors, we have discovered that leading edge of your sliding door is not parallel with the side of the Pet Door Insert, therefore when you close sliding door there will be a gap either at the top or at the bottom. If the gap is large enough than 'mohair' weather strip alone might not prevent the draft. In order to overcome this problem, try adjusting a wheel located at the bottom of your sliding door. Use a screw driver (usually philips head) and screw / unscrew the wheel adjustment screw until you achieve correct alignment of the door. Wheel adjustment screw is located in the hole at the very bottom of the sliding door leading edge.

Please note that if you install the Screen Door Adapter, you wil not need to insert 'mohair' weather strip into the Pet Door Insert. 'Mohair" weather strip is provided with the Screen Door Adapter.

Rubber weather prevents draft comming between the fixed sliding door panel and the sliding door. To install, you need to pill off and stick rubber weather strip onto the sliding door. Ensure thet the rubber edge is in contact with the glass of the fixed sliding door panel.
