The most important decision to make in choosing a pet door are the size of the opening for your pet ('flap dimension') and the 'rise' or height of the pet door above the ground level.

Follow our guidelines below and your selection of the right Pet Door Insert is easy:

1. WIDTH SELECTION: Open your Sliding Glass Door to the width of the flap size you are considering. Get your pet to pass through the gap. Whichever width size you select, ensure that your pet can pass through comfortably.

2. HEIGHT SELECTION: Measure your pet from the floor to just comfortably above the top of its shoulder. Don’t measure to the top of your pet’s head. All pets normally duck their heads when passing through a pet door and pick their paws up. This will give you the measurement needed for the flap height.

Flap Width refers to the horizontal width across the flap

Rise is height from the floor to the bottom of the flap

Height refers to the height from the floor to the top of the flap (hinge)



There are generally three reasons you may need a customised Pet Door Insert

1. If your sliding door is outside of the standard door range (2.0 - 2.1 meters in height), we offer height alterations.

Three options are available:

  • Door Extension with glass - we construct the door using a longer piece of glass and longer aluminium extrusions. Additional cost is $150.  Additional surcharge applies for the extensions over 2.5 m.

  • Door Extension with a window - we provide a custom window which mounts on the standard Pet Door Insert. If you ever relocate to a new residence with the standard sliding doors, the window can be removed. Window is constructed from same aluminium extrusions as Pet Door Insert with polycarbonate clear panel. Additional cost is $150.

  • Door Extension with additional panel - using the standard size door with an additional fixed panel on top of the adjustment panel. One additional  panel will extend the range from 2.1 - 2.2m and the second additional  panel will extend the range from 2.2 - 2.3. Additional cost is $50 per panel.

NOTE - Cost for Sliding Door Adaptors (longer than 2.1 standard size) is $100.

2. If your pet requires a modified size flap we can customise it to your requirements. Additional cost will vary depending on your requirements.

3. You want a specific colour for your Pet Door Insert. For powder coating colors other than our standard colours of black, white or primrose the additional cost is $150. You need to provide us with a color name/code ( Dulux or Interpon Color chart).
